Associate Professor Dr. Watcharin Kasaklak, President of the Engineering Institute of Thailand under His Majesty the King’s Patronage, highlights the significance of various government infrastructure development projects as crucial mechanisms to propel the country's economic growth and improving the quality life for the Thai people. The anticipated value of government construction in 2023 is estimated to range between 8.4-8.5 billion THB, reflecting a growth of 2.5 to 3.5% from the previous year. The primary driving force for 2023 remains on investments in mega-scale public infrastructure projects, with ongoing developments in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), including the U-Tapao Airport project, Map Ta Phut Industrial Port Phase 3, Laem Chabang Port Phase 3, Thailand-China High-Speed Rail Project Phase 1, and the Southern Purple Line Project. These ongoing projects are expected to constitute approximately 65% of the investment capital, while the
remaining 35% will be allocated to new projects commencing in 2024. Noteworthy private sector construction initiatives, such as renewable energy power plants, electric vehicle production facilities, and 5G system infrastructure, are also in progress. As well, the growing business investments in ASEAN, geographically located in the heart of the world’s most robust economic landscape, have attracted abundant mega projects and industrial manufacturing base relocations worth zillions of dollars from all over.

The majority of the project value lies in engineering work, necessitating smart engineering technology, advanced machinery, construction equipment as well as modern materials and innovations tailored to the distinct demands. As projects become more complex, Thai engineers face the challenge of leveraging technology to enhance productivity more than ever. This includes adopting technologies like virtual reality, AI, drones and adaptive autonomous robots, which not only increases efficiency but also addresses the evolving landscape of engineering. Embracing these technologies for seamless transition towards automation is essential for Thai engineers to stay competitive, requiring a comprehensive understanding of various sciences and knowledge to seize opportunities and contribute to the advancement of world-class engineering.

Somchit Piampremsuk, Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the International Engineering Expo 2024, reveals that engineering projects are one of the vital mechanisms contributing to the country's economic stability, encompassing infrastructure systems, digital management, energy management and production and smart buildings. Thailand stands out with numerous large-scale engineering projects at both national and regional levels. Today, alongside economic development, environmental sustainability and achieving Net Zero have become equally important goals.

Thailand, as a signatory to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 26), is committed to achieving Net Zero globally by 2050, marking a significant shift towards sustainability since the Industrial Revolution era.

This year, the “International Engineering Expo” is held under the theme of “Driving Sustainability Responsiveness”. The event will feature engineering technology for sustainability, incorporating various activities such as conferences and seminars. These activities aim to integrate knowledge, stimulate discussions, and actively promote the implementation and measurability of sustainability practices.

Suraphon Utintu, Managing Director of N.C.C. Management and Development Co Ltd., said the collaboration in organizing the “International Engineering Expo 2024” leverages the expertise of the Engineering Institute of Thailand across various engineering fields. This partnership merges the knowledge of the Engineering Institute of Thailand under His Majesty the King’s Patronage, with the exhibition organizing proficiency of N.C.C. Management and Development Co., Ltd. and Queen Sirikit National Convention Center. This event will enhance business opportunities expansion for international exhibitors and visitors, serving as a platform for showcasing state-of-the-art technologies and the latest engineering knowhow in the following exhibit profiles: Platform engineering, Construction and maintenance solution, Software solution/ Safety and Security/ IoT/ SI, Electrical power, alternative and renewable energy, EV, Solar system, Power generator, Power transmission, Robot system and Sustainable technology. It will also facilitate knowledge exchange among engineers across this region, inspiring engineering designs that prioritize sustainability. The event's schedule has been set to align with the international trade fair calendar, with this year's edition set to take place from July 24-26 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC), Bangkok, Thailand.

The ‘International Engineering Expo 2024’ will feature expanded space to accommodate exhibitors, brand owners of technology, materials, equipment and services from overseas. Notably, it marks the first year of participation for countries and territories from the Asian zone, including Japan, China, Korea, and Taiwan, along with an EU participant, Germany. Expanding the international buyer base (visitors): In the first year, the focus will be on attracting engineers from CLMV countries, with plans to increase the number of visitors from other regions in the following years. The event will conduct continuous business matching activities to enhance business opportunities, as well as discuss successful models and best practices in engineering sustainability from various countries in the region. This will elevate the event to organize an international engineering conference with the aim of making Thailand a key platform for regional trends.

The ‘International Engineering Expo 2024’, the international exhibition on technology, tools, engineering equipment, and conferences, is jointly organized with the ‘ASEAN TOOLS EXPO 2024’, showcasing innovative hardware and mechanics tools in the ASEAN region. The “International Engineering Expo” will include over 150 companies, and offers 50 seminars on best practices in sustainability. The event is scheduled to take place on 24-26 July 2024, at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC), Bangkok, Thailand. Over 30,000 visitors from both domestic and international regions are expected to generate business value exceeding one billion THB.
